Everyone should be exercising. So they say. I personally dip in and out of wanting to do any exercise. But when I’m in the mood for it, I love nothing more than throwing on my gear and heading out on the bike or on my feet and getting lost in woods, country lanes or even local towns I’ve never explored before. It’s been an eye-opening way to find my way around and get to know my area.

I reside in the south of London (near Croydon) and like lots of people around here, I struggle to find the time or motivation to move, what with all the commuting and working and parenting. With a busy lifestyle I found my first ventures in to “staying fit” to be mind-numbing. Spending my hours in a packed local gym with so many people I’d rather not have to compete with kind of took the whole fun out of it for me. Some people love it, but that isn’t my natural preference. So I started heading outdoors and getting on my bike to commute the 13 miles to work.

I’ve explored lots of places in Surrey and London both running and cycling and most importantly I’ve had some great experiences and found some little spots of natural beauty that I never would have found unless I got there. If you have never been to Box Hill, I highly recommend getting on a bike, running or hiking there and you will see what I mean. That first moment you’re thrust in to a glorious view of Surrey countryside unexpectedly is incredible. I would say that was where the bug of wandering and exploring first bit me.

Here I arrive at the point of this blog. I’ve made memories and I like the idea of capturing them. If someone sees something they like or want to share ideas of their own, then that’s even better.

Happy exploring. Here’s a quote I just googled to top it all off.
